Economically Effective
This is simple left hand chord voicing is about as “thin” as it can get. However, it is yet another example of how less can be more. By leaving out the middle two chord tones, this chord voicing gives us the flexibility to play that chord lower on the keyboard. It also has it’s own spacious quality while maintaining its functionality. If you’re thinking, “Well, the chord is not complete, is it?” you would be right to a point. However, many times the 3rd of the chord will be in the melody. When it’s not, remember that the musical effect takes precedence over theory. Have using this in lots of your favorite standards, including ballads, too!
