Have you used transcriptions throughout your development?
I don't read full scores well enough to do that. If I had the ability to do so, I most certainly would use transcriptions. I know two pianists who only play written and they are wonderful pianists. A popular piano arranger is a man with the last name of Erdstrom. There are several others and I will research them. The only drawback I see to playing a gig using only arrangements is that the player is really completely dependent on their ipad. If that battery falters, the pianist is really in a bind. Taking requests must be fairly limiting as well.

I agree with your statement. Actually, I was referring to using transcriptions as a means of learning or incorporating musical ideas into one's style. Transcriptions can include written documentations of a performer's actual performance or simply listening and interpreting the recording of a performance and duplicating what is heard. To a certain degree, everyone does this, whether consciously or not. However, some make it more of a focused intention and effort. There are different views on this approach and everyone's is to be respected.
