For all major and minor chords, I try to use both the seventh and the ninth. I also use mostly rootless chords. I mainly use these two voicings. In ascending order, I use either 7-9-3-5 or 3-5-7-9. For example, for "C" major, I could play B-D-E-G. or E-G-B-D.
For Am7, I could use G-B-C-E or C-E-G-B.
