Here's something I do when playing uptempo. To get a simulated swing feel, I play in the left hand a I-7 voicing a half step above the root of the next chord. For example, "Satin Doll" uses some ii-V motions. The tune begins(in the "A" section, that is) with Dm7 moving to G7. I approach the G7, one-half step above with Aflat. I use the I-7 voicing there, that is, Aflat and Gflat together before the G7. In other words, on beat 1, I play D in the bass, on beat 2, I play a rootless Dm7 chord:ascending inorder, that is f-A-C-E, on beat 3, I play Aflat and Gflat together, and on beat 4, I play a rootles G dominat:ascending that is spelled, F-A-B-E(technically, that is a G13.
Move eveerything up a step and you have the next II-V covered, which in this case is Em7-A7.
I practiced all twelve ii-V's to get comfortable and it wasn't too long before this became second nature to me. I find this helpful because my hands are too small to reach a tenth. However, I soon learned that using sevenths is a viable substitute.
I encourage all of you to get comfortable with this pattern. It will serve you well.
